At a flea market I saw Record plane No.5 priced at Rm200.00 (US$65.00. The plane was in very good condition.I am not aware of the price for a new one . I hope to ask for US$50.00 this Saturday if nobody had bought it yet.
What do you think?

I would offer $40 and settle at $50 if they are hard to find where you are at. I think more modern Records are better than Stanley’s of the same age.

The older ones are made better, and should have more value, but that’s always subjective. You can spot the older ones by looking for square corners at the top edge of the blade vs rounded, and by the one piece cast “y-adjuster” (wishbone looking thing that moves the brass adjustment wheel) vs stamped metal….it should be all blue if it’s older. If it still has a decal, the blue decal is older than the gold one, but it’s not uncommon for a handle to get change, which throws that clue out the window. $65 is a bit steep unless it’s spectacular.
