I think it’s time to finally get a real drill press. I’ve been struggling along with my little 8” Delta for the last 20 years and I’m tired of it.

Table is too small, drill depth too short, not enough throat depth, etc.

I’m thinking I’d like to upgrade to a floor model. I started looking at the Delta 18-900L, but got a little scared off by some of the negative reviews. I like the compound tilt on the table, but not the manual belt adjustment.

Went to Acme tools yesterday and saw the Powermatic 2800B. Looks very nice. Really liked the wheel adjustable speed with digital readout. Easy depth setting. Keyless chuck. Of course, their are some negative reviews on that one as well, but generally pretty decent.

I would plan to use it mostly for woodworking and light metal work. No heavy duty precision machining.

Any opinions on these models? Others I should check out?

Thanks!

I’m looking to pick up that Porter Cable at Lowes. I mean a $350 and change for what I do it looks like a pretty decent buy. Lots of positive reviews here and at the Lowe’s site.

Have your say...
