Here I go again. Some of you may or may not remember my problem with the drive shaft on my “smiley face” Delta band saw. If you recall, I could not get one of the bearings off the shaft without pulling it with a puller. In doing so I did more damage to the shaft then the original owner did getting it on. It turned out to be the wrong bearing and was a tad undersized.

I went to two machine shops today plus a large machine tool supply house. They all said that they could not clean up the shaft threads because they did not have dies that size. The tool supply house told me they could have one of their suppliers make a die but I would not like the price.

So….what are my options. If it helps as near as I can figure out this is part number LBS 85. That is the part number that is listed in two of my maintenance sheets down loaded from the net.

Any help appreciated.

Take a small file and very gently clean them up. I would think something like this would do it.

Thanks Shawn. I’ll give it a try.

Shawn, just want to let you know that your suggestion worked. I got the nut to go back on the end of the shaft. About to post another topic on installing that lower shaft and new bearings in the saw.
