Anyone ever used one of these tops from Grizzly?

I am thinking of using one of these tops as the top for an assembly table in my shop, and to replace the extension table in my table saw.

Do you think they’d stay flat? Any other concerns or comments? What about better sources?

hmmm, as with any wooden top, I would assume it WILL have some movement to it, so you’ll probably have to true it down every once in a blue moon. also as a work bench you’d probably want to secure it and lock it down on all sides to keep it’s movement minimal. as a work bench I’d say this would be nice, but as an assembly table – you can make a much cheaper top as a torsion box – will be much flatter and also stay flat in the long run, and much much cheaper.

I had a pair of these a few years ago. They were very sturdy. And heavy! If your shop is in a conditioned space, you should not have any movement problems. I wish that I still had them. The sell for ~$300 plus shipping at grainger.

I was at the nearest Grizzly store recently ( I wish I had the money to go crazy in a store like that …) but was really suprised at the quality of their work benches: both construction and materials. My personal opinion is build a work bench, but if you have to buy one, you won’t go wrong.

3’X6’X2” is 20 bd.ft. at $2.00 a bd ft for #1 com Soft Maple. That is 40 Dollars in wood. Should be good and sturdy. That could also be built out of scraps.
