Topic tags/keywords: question

I just dug out a tool from my garage that I haven’t used for over 20 years. Didn’t even know it was there. Anyhow it is a very heavy cast iron Craftsman Bench Top Shaper/Router (model 149-23910). Tool runs good and will clean up nicely. Problem is I have no collet. It was made to take 1/2” or 1/4”. I have been to eReplacementparts.com, my usual “go to” parts dealer. They say the machine and parts are obsolete. I checked Craftsman direct, no luck. MRC doesn’t have any. Circle Saw is out and there is not one on Ebay.

Does anyone have any spares for their machine I could buy? If not, can anyone suggest someplace I might find collets. If I had one to see what it looks like, maybe a machine shop could make me one.

It’s a good machine and I hate to scrap it because of something as little as a collet but without a collet, it is worthless. Y’all have solved problems in the past so try to figure something out for this problem. Thanks

Could you get a local machinist to make you one?

Mark, that looks like my only solution otherwise all I have is a Craftsman Bench Top “Anchor”. I hate to just get rid of it. I am still looking for a collet for some other shaper that might be interchangeable. I haven’t given up yet and at the end I’ll try to get someone to make one.

Did you ever find a source for parts for the Craftsman 23910 / AMT 4750 Shaper/Router? I need a 1/” spindle assembly for one.

Have your say...
