The old Congreve clock, they are a little hard to adjust for accurate time. I have had one on my to do list
for a long time, and I think I will just leave it there. A fellow named Congreve got the idea for this from
watching the load cannon balls down a ramp, so you know it has been around for a while.

They are definitely fun to watch, but they would make a very poor timekeeper. I small amount of dust in the channel would affect the timing. Also, the time base would change as the ball slowly wears a groove in the track. A good old fashioned pendulum is a lot less affected by dust or changing time as it breaks in.

Neat mechanical device, a lot of engineering …. but doubtful usefulness.

Usefulness smooshfulness, sometimes neat is just neat, and that’s why you build it.
