Long time listener, first time caller.
I recently purchased a SawStop 3 HP professional cabinet saw from Highland Woodworking. Fine outfit. Reasonable people. I probably was not as informed as I should have been, even after doing what I thought was a reasonable amount of research. Let me apologize in advance if this information is too basic. It might help someone else like myself.
I live in Texas but bought from Highland in Georgia (instead of WoodCraft) because (1) for the same shipping price ($250) Highland would deliver the saw to my garage while WoodCraft would deliver to their local store and (2) purchasing the saw in another state meant not having to pay state sales tax. This is something that you might consider if you are buying a SawStop product.
Please keep the following in mind:
SawStop Free Upgrade Offer
(1) You’re Getting The Mobile Base, Not A Refund For The Mobile Base
I bought the saw with the mobile base, incorrectly thinking that SawStop would refund the price of the mobile base. This is how most other mail-in rebates work. After having applied for the refund, I have come to find that SawStop does not refund the purchase price but rather provides the mobile base. That’s an excellent value but I didn’t understand this when I bought the saw and the mobile base. So if you want the mobile base, buy the saw and ASAP, send in the rebate to get the mobile base. Ideally, you want to have the mobile base prior to assembling the saw as it attaches to the bottom of the cabinet.
(2) You Might Be Able To Return The Mobile Base
Upon realizing my mistake, I called Highland Woodworking and SawStop. Long story short, SawStop was more than willing to ship the mobile base to Highland Woodworking. Highland agreed to refund the purchase price of the mobile base upon receiving the new base from SawStop.
(3) SawStop Seems To Send The Free Upgrade Quickly
I scanned my form and receipt to a PDF file and E-mailed that to SawStop (email@example.com). I received an E-mail in about 20 minutes acknowledging receipt and was told that they would ship the mobile base to Highland Woodworking that afternoon. This is despite the fact that the refund form says to allow 4-6 weeks for processing. That’s fast!
(4) 30 Days
The refund must be filled out and sent in within 30 days of purchasing the saw. Thankfully I didn’t miss the deadline but I was close! It took almost 2 weeks from the time that I ordered the saw until the time that it was delivered to me. I was changing jobs and couldn’t put the saw together (and get to the serial number) right away. So it took me 3+ weeks to get the saw assembled from the day that it was purchased. This does not leave a lot of time to get the mail-in rebate done. So if you are going to do this, please be aware of the timing of the mail-in rebate so that you do not miss the deadline.
When I release the mobile base, the cabinet of the saw comes to rest on the concrete floor of my garage. I’m concerned that over time, the paint will chip and the cabinet will rust. Have any of you done anything to address this? I thought of trying to find some kind of adhesive-backed rubber (i.e. weather stripping) to put on the bottom lip of the cabinet to dampen the descent and protect the paint from damage. What do you think?
Thank you in advance.
