Hello, I am a student in my shop class, and I need a way to stain wood with a purple kool aid and get a dark color. If no one has the correct answer, then amy I inquire as to what stain I use specifically for sealing wooden cups. I need it to be black and for the cups to be useable… if anyone has any suggestions about either stain I am willing to hear it and try it … Thanks eveyone :)

Rit dye in a strong concentration and very hot will get the wood dark in a hurry, then a couple of coats of wiping polyurethane to seal and finish. Take a quick look at the plane handles on my project page for details.

If you’re looking for a really deep, intense black, try some India ink, diluted with water. Black trans tint dye will also work, diluted with water or alcohol to the desired colour concentration. Then simply top coat as desired.

If you really want the cups to be usable for liquid, durable epoxy finish might be required.
