So i bought a couple pieces of buckeye when i bought some wood, didn’t know anything about it except it’s pretty and really soft. Not sure what to do with it since it’s so soft, or what do you all usually make with soft wood, jewelry box perhaps? I made a little wine balanacer and in the process of making a wall mounted bottle opener because i wanted to see what it looked like finished but feel like i’m wasting it using it for those things. Another question, finishing, i put danish oil on it and it sucks it up like it’s going out of style. Are there other techniques for finishing soft wood or just keep applying until it’s done drinking it?

Instead of oil, finish it with a film finish like shellac or poly.
