gettin ready to purchase a bandsaw again sold my Rikon 10-345 goin to go smaller maybe Grizzly 555, what do you guys think about just making a riser for say 9inches instead of 12 I really only need 8in for my jointer, thinking of making a riser block 3in tall and spacing my BS to 9 in, what do you guys think????? can get the blades cut custom for same price

The biggest problem you will have is that your blade guard will not work right because it will still be designed for the shorter height.

There might not be standard blades to fit it. You can have them made or make your own of course.

My suggestion is,if you have 220v outlet,buy a used 17” or bigger bandsaw ,you’ll not need a riser block,you could use a much wider blade and never worry about metal fatigue.a 14” with a riser block is a good second option when you don’t have much choice .

I think you will be very happy with that 17” Grizz. I certainly have enjoyed mine.

Did I miss something? You wanted to go to a smaller 14” saw because you sold your big 18” saw. Now you are going to buy a 17” saw. Is that not almost the same size as what you just got rid of?
