Definition: ”...Arbitrary and Capricious means doing something according to one’s will or caprice and therefore conveying a notion of a tendency to abuse the possession of power…”

Hmm… somehow, this is NOT how I intended on living my life here on LJs. As LJs ownership has changed hands/ownership this very CONCEPT has moved to the forefront, and it concerns me dearly…

Is THIS how we LJs want to continue? Please share your individual feelings…

Obviously, I have my LJs sponsored list of “BLOCKED” individuals (~50 or so) that are not allowed to contribute (as instructed to do so under specific LJs guidelines) since I am sponsoring this particular thread. Please remember THIS is what LJs instructs us to do, so do NOT hold that against me individually as I am trying to comply with LJs policy…\

What are your opinions?

I feel like the subject of this thread might be important. But I have absolutely no idea what you are talking about. Some background info?

The site is certainly NOT like it use to be. Please let’s revert.

Flame wars make rattling good history, and perhaps 15 crowded minutes of glory

Peaceful sites maybe too boring for some. Almost like sitting in a classroom?

“For future reference, when a contest is offered in this community, it will NOT be acceptable to post complaints about the contest being offered. Those types of comments will be removed and if the poster continues to post comments trashing the contest (or the company offering the contest) their account will be locked.”

This is not a community it is an advertisement. I accept that, I don’t pay anything to enter. I never log in anymore however I thought that this thread needed some support and so I made this exception. I can get everything I need from the site without logging in, I get nothing of value by contributing. I’m logging out now, without contributing anything else of value (added).

You guys are all great. Amazing and inspirational. I will never stop looking at the awesome projects (unless they all have to have corporate logos) and I will always be inspired by the overwhelming level of skill I see here.

With an overwhelming sense of the irony of the statement let me just say that I will not contribute (anything else).

Mike – I think I missed something, even though I agree with you.

I get it but I will continue posting and ignoring what I do not like. I am not going to let advertising spoil my pleasure of participating on lumberjocks. There is not much we can do about it but complain or move on to the same thing on another forum.

What it boils down to is, “SIT DOWN, SHUT UP, AND LISTEN”. There are a some members that get upset when you don’t do it the way they do because they bought the book or DVD’s and by cracky, that’s the way it is gonna be…......When you go against the grain, you hurt their feelings, so they go cry to the babysitter.

There is a time in life you HAVE to grow up (not completely)

My take is, if you don’t like what is being said, NOBODY is twisting your arm to read or participate in a thread.

Good luck and farewell…..

Joe

I have noticed that the site has changed and really, other than the longer load load times and ads in the directly in forums, I could not put finger on it. The only other thing I can detect is that it has become without “flavor” with spice, vanilla flavored.

So far, I have not seen enough NEW stuff to make me want to leave “The Family”.

I have not noticed a speed problem…

For a short term, I hated to see Ads inserted after the Thread Title and Before the first post… That was getting to me! Then, I didn’t see it anymore… All OK!

Someone here told me about ADBLOCK for FREE… I looked it up, installed it, and was VERY HAPPY with the results!

Maybe that’s why I’m not seeing those Ads anymore… I just remember it being a lot better after getting it working!
That’s my 2 cents…

I’m here with the Family of LumberJocks until something REALLY REALLY bad happens…

I’ve been known to habit a few watering holes and have noticed occasionally you get a regular (or ten) who forgets they are a customer and begins believing they “own” the place. That can be positive when they contribute and take some responsibility such as one of my favorite haunts where the regulars welcome newcomers, keep the peace and stop trouble before it starts. But it can turn very negative when that attitude becomes boisterous and disorderly and can be destructive to the business as it drives away people who don’t want to hear rowdy drunks yelling obscenities, fighting with other customers and berating staff. When that happens the real owners either have to clamp down and get people back in line or go out of business. Not much different for a forum.

The below arbitrary & capricious limitation (ONE BUDDY) appears to be, IMO, designed to drive communications to the completely open forum threads. Once there, our communications are again subject to arbitrary & capricious “editing” or “deletion”, all depending on non-communicated and/or non-standardized policies.

Personally I hate being put into a constant state of fear NOT knowing when I will be “paddled” for something I might unknowingly do or say. It sure tightens my sphincter wondering when the next one is coming.

Only one solution: start your own website. I like this one just fine.
