I am making a tv table adapted from a creole table plan in Fine Woodworking. I am lengthening the table to 40” and adding a shelf about 4” below the skirt. the shelf will hold very light stereo equipment and will be linserted into grooves cut 3/4” into the legs. Do I need to add additional support for the 3/4” shelf? I was considering bracing it to the top with a board between the drawers. I am using Mahogany.

The structure as you have demonstrated looks sound to me.
