What do you guys think would be a fair price for this:

http://denver.craigslist.org/tls/4358049354.html

I contacted him for model number and he replied 37-380. I asked him what he based his price on and he said from ebay listings, but when I checked there were no listings on ebay.

I think asking price is too much, but don’t have anything to confirm that.

I have seen that jointer on the south Florida Craigslist for $750 and up. If in doubt use something like Adhuntr.com to search for it on CL around the country.

Around Detroit that would go for 750 to 1250 depending on condition, that one looks priced rite.

Too much money. 800 is a better price

Very important that you find out what type of head it has. If it is a helical carbide insert head, then yes, it’s probably fair, but if not, heck no, I would buy the Grizzly.

IIRC, that jointer had a MSRP of around $2K, but were selling for around $1000-1100 new.. and at one point, I think just before they were discontinued, I saw them around $700 ($699 + $125 shipping). Just keep walking.. a good deal will turn up if you have patience.

Cheers,
Brad

Edit: There is a DJ-20 listed for $850 which you could probably talk down a bit:

Thanks guys. I had told the guy that 700 range was more realistic.
Brad – just emailed about the DJ-20. Do all the DJ-20 have helical head and parallelogram tables?

AFAIK, all DJ-20’s have parallogram tables and standard knives.. I also have heard from a few people that you can get the spiral cutterhead cheaper through Grizzly (H8803), since the G0490 is basically a Delta DJ-20 clone (as is the Shopfox 1741).

Cheers,
Brad
