So I am getting into hand planes and am looking for a jointer. I am willing to buy vintage but am leery of buying a vintage jointer that is out of flat, since I've heard conflicting stories how hard it is to flatten the bed of a jointer plane.
Either way, can you guys that use them tell me the where and how you prefer a 7 over an 8 or vice versa. If it's simple personal preference, that's ok too. I'm not trying to start a which tablesaw should I buy fight here.
Will one do things the other wont?
Is the 8 better for handling longer pieces? Does the 7 not tire a reasonable person out as fast? I've read every word of blood and gore on both planes. I've also heard that LN says the no 7 is much more popular than the no 8. Once I get reasonably proficient with the hand jointer, my jet powered one is going on craigslist.
Thank you for your input
