So i posted a craigslist ad a couple days ago looking for a jointer and lunch box planer. One guy emailed me and has a Delta 22-580 for $250 and a real nice Jet 6” jointer for $425, unfortunately i think the jointer would just be too big for my 2 car garage shop but would love to have it. His delta planer comes on a stand and has an added on dust port, the planer looks brand new. Another guy emailed me and has a porter cable planer and the bench top jointer both for $250. I know the PC jointer is pretty tiny but would fit nicely in my shop but not sure about the performance of it. What’s your alls opinions on these particular items, i know these posts are a dime a dozen so thanks for the responses.

I had a benchtop jointer for 3 days before I returned it and ordered a floor standing 6” jointer from Grizzly. My shop is tiny 20×17 it has a rolling base and I just shove it into the corner when I’m not using it. I have a dewalt 735 as a benchtop planer that I love.

there are plenty of benchtop planers that are quite good. If you have a DC unit I highly reccomend getting one with a 4” dust port. both the jointer and planer spew out dust and chips.

Do you happen to know roughly what’s the longest piece of wood you can do on the jointer and get good results?

I have 4 adjustable infeed and outfeed rollers for anything longer than 5-6 feet as long as it’s supported I haven’t run into issues with 8’ boards. I haven’t jointed longer than that yet on the 6” jointer.

I would go for both for $250. This way you get to try our both of the items and decide on which of or both you can use now and possibly upgrade in the future.
