Hi folks,

I’ve been in the market for a thickness planer for awhile now and finally found one on CL. Owner claims it to be a 13 1/2” 2 blade Rigid. He says he can’t find the model number, but states the planer works great. He’s asking $175 which includes a stand he made for it. He isn’t able to upload pics, so I don’t have much to go on. It’s over an hour drive for me to go and see it so I want to make sure it might be worth the drive. Would anyone have any idea what model number it could be? He seems nice enough and also has a Jet 10-20 sander and a 16” drill press for sale, though we haven’t talked price on those yet.

it could be any one of these (search on tp1300):

if it’s gray in color, it carries a lifetime guaranty against manufacturing defects that is independent of who the owner is. what that’s worth on a unit that’s at least 10+YO is up to a potential buyer. orange colored units were eligible for registration with ridgid’s LSA by the original owner of the tool, but that does not apply to subsequent owners.

So, I spoke with the owner this evening and confirmed that the planer is orange. He states it’s about 4-1/2 years old. Being I don’t need the homemade stand, I was thinking of offering $150 for it. He also has a Jet 10-20 drum sander that he hasn’t priced yet, a Delta 16” drill press, a Jet 6” jointer and a Steel City mortiser. I wish I had more info to give you guys, but the owner claims all are in excellent condition. From speaking to him, I believe him. If all are in the condition he claims, and I approached him with $700 what could I reasonably expect to leave with? I don’t really need the mortiser, if that helps.

Probably a 4330. Be careful. This guy is too vague.
4 years – Look it over closely. Could be pretty worn.

I could be wrong, but I believe all the Ridgid planers were only 13”. Sounds a bit shady to me. Doesn’t know what model it is and can’t up load pics. I may not know off hand what model tools I have, but I know where the plate is on every tool and I have the manuals to tell me as well.
