How good of a finish do you get when milling thin stock 1/8 – 1/4 curley maple qswo purple heart with a 15 in grizzly planer with a carbide insert spiral cutter head? Right now I have a 13 in ridgid planner with straight blades. Would it be worth it just to buy a spiral cutter head for the ridgid planner? Ive been thinking about buying the grizzley planer.

I understand that Ridgid has introduced a helical cutting head for the 13” planer. Not inexpensive – about $400, I believe. I don’t know how that compares to a new Grizzly unit.
