Mornin’ all, I have a goofy story to share with you. I have chickens, six hens and one rooster (lucky bastard) and I have no idea who built the pen they live in, but they did a crappy job. The door to the pen is warped to hell and every morning when I go out to give them their biscuit (yep, I bake them biscuits) I have to get a running start and do this Bruce Lee karate kick on the stupid thing to get it open. Ofcourse I have to put a prozak in the biscuit to calm everybody down after my entry. Buuuttttt, this morning the door did not fling open as it usually does and I landed on my arse. I laid there doing this bobblehead thing as I was stunned out of my mind. The chickens were all flapping their wings and screaming. I would like to think it is because they were concerned for my well being, but it turns out while I laid on the ground in a semi-conscious state my cat had stolen the biscuit I flung a hundred feet away. So I get up, chase the cat, not sure why I did that and no, I didn’t get him or the biscuit. The chickens are pissed off, I broke my butt and my cat seems to have a hairball the size of a small planet. I guess the biscuit was a bit dry. Serves him right.

HA HA HA HA Now for the gate… My wife and I built the garden gates this last year and covered them with chicken wire. We don’t have chickens but we do have voracous jack rabbits. The gates are simple 2×2 redwood frames and cross brace and we used a bisquit joiner and TiteBond III glue, (waterproof) and no screws or nails, (except for holding the chicken wire on). So far the gates, both, are as strong as the day we installed them. Here on the high desert the gates have srvived 120 summer temps, 17 degree winter temps, rain and two weeks ago 8 inches of snow. Oh, we used Thompson’s deck sealer on them.

I’m loving the fresh eggs too much to eat them!! The girls are technically not supposed to be laying right now because it’s winter, but I feed them so darn good I’ll get one or two eggs here and there. If you’ve ever had fresh eggs you know what I mean!!

Give the rooster a couple of drops of bourbon(yes, you can use the cheap stuff), he’ll keep the hens busy and give you a great laugh. Then when it’s time to stew him, he’ll already be marinated. Then all you have to do is focus on the door….......................yoda
