Topic tags/keywords: blades band saw carter olson

Short question, are Olson band saw blades any good? Further, what blades do you all prefer or recommend? I have been using Carter blades but I have broken two blades recently.

Currently all I have is Olson not particularly satisfied or dissatisfied either way. The price was right for me when getting started with the bandsaw. The 1/2 inch I use for resaw needs replacement and I’m going to try something else. I’ll be watching this thread.

I see lots of threads speaking very highly of the woodslicer blades for re-saw. Full disclosure, I very rarely use my bandsaw and just use cheap-o’s when I do.

I use Olson blades exclusively. Both Olson Pro and Olson Standard.

The 1/2” – 4 tooth resaw blade does everything I ask of it.

Other folks like other brands better, but for me the price point is right, they last nicely if taken care of, (This one has been in service for 500 bd ft of Oak, Walnut, Cherry and Sycamore).

I may have not included enough information. The blade that broke was a 1/4” and I am not sure of the brand. If my thinking is right I believe this is the original blade that came with the saw.
I very seldom resaw but when I do I use a carter 1/2” 4 tpi. Mostly I use 1/4” and 3/16”. I also have a Carter stabilizer on this saw if that makes any difference.

I have never used Olson blades on my big saw but I use Olson and Olson Pro blades on the 14” Ridgid and have been very impressed with the quality and longevity for the price. Have only used the 1/4” blades.

I prefer the Olson 1/4” and 1/2” blades over the Bosch blades from Lowes. Those are the only two brands I’ve tried. The Olsons are about $15 and the Bosch are $8. One Bosch blade I had was welded a little crooked and ran rough, where I have not had that problem with Olson. I think the Olsons last longer before breaking too, but the do break eventually.

I’ve had good results from Timberwolf. Lennox and Woodslicer are popular too.

I guess I will soon find out if Olson blades are any good. Just got home from Woodcraft store and all they had in stock for my saw (99.75”) in 1/4” were Olson brand. I’ll be using it next week so I’ll see first hand what I think.

I use my band saw 99% for re-sawing. Woodslicer blades cut very well but do not last as long as the 5/8” Grizzly carbide blades I now use.

Hi Steve. I went to Woodcraft store here in Grand Rapids last evening to pick up a new Carter blade. They did not have my size so the young man salesman suggested I try an Olson. So I came home with a 6tpi Olson (1/4”) so I’ll give a test on my next project.

A few years back some guy on ebay U K had made an error in making some very big bandsaw blades he was left with about a hundred of them. They were all the same width one and a quarter inch so he did me about twenty for my saw which thankfully was a bit smaller than the ones he had, so I am fixed pretty well for life with resaw blades. They are not olsen I don’t know or care what company they were to be honest as I got them in very big sizes for I think about £6.00 each plus del. Normal cost five times that or more. All I can say is they cut great and last me about a year and I chuck them away and get on with it.Alistair
