Topic tags/keywords: maple walnut question finishing

Hi all. I’m building a game board for an ancient Viking game called Hnefatafl. Basically the board is just a square of 13×13 smaller squares. To make this I inlayed walnut into maple. But now I’m not sure what finish to use. I’m thinking either tung, or teak. Plus I’ll cover with polyurethane.

Any suggestion on which (or other) would bring out the best in both woods?

Tung oil or a Danish oil should do a great job of bringing out the finish and dry before the end of time, unlike BLO, which I’ve used before but never again. Unless the project at hand doesn’t need to be coated with anything else for a very long time!
