Topic tags/keywords: jointer question

Hello All, Thank you for everyone’s replies on my jointer vs. planer thread. I found the DeWalt DW735 at the local big box store for about $400.00 bucks. I also took a look at Craigslist and found a used Jet 1HP 6” closed stand jointer. The jointer is the model with the 46” table and from the one picture I’ve seen it looks to be in good condition. New this jointer sells for just over $700.00 online plus shipping. The guy on Craigslist was asking $350.00 for the unit. I offered $250.00 and he said that he would take it.

So my question for you all is, is $250.00 a good deal for this jointer? Does anyone have this jointer? Let me know. I’m supposed to meet with the guy some time this week to finalize the deal and pick up the jointer. Picture of jointer below:

Go!!! But wear a mask- this is a steal!

And only $400 for the Dewalt 735!! Woodcraft wants over $600 for it!

Yeah, apparently the DW735 is being discontinued, or at least discontinued from the big orange boxes here. Either way I’m not complaining. I haven’t gone to pick it up yet but I know the stock level of every store in town(I’m paranoid like that) so when I go tomorrow or Friday to pick one up I know I’ll find one…

I’ve read so many great reviews of this planer that I feel confident it will be a good investment, discontinued or not…

Thats funny, I have the same exact jointer that I am also selling. I was fortunate to get an 8” Grizzly with Carbide inserts from Santa. Its a good jointer I think you will be happy with it.

Anyone need another?

Forget the “discontinued” part. Big box stores are always changing their stock lines. Jet is a good company and will continue selling that jointer. And should they upgrade to a newer model there is nothing you should ever need to replace except the cutting blades and maybe the electric motor after fifty years running, both easily replaced. The rest is heavy cast iron!

Grab that thing! You’ve got a hell of a good deal!

Great deal on the jointer, and great deal on the planer. I can’t remember which magazine, but they really liked that planer and the craftsman professional planer.

I’m looking at jointers and planers right now and let’s just say the deals AND the weather are better in Vegas than in Wisconsin right now.

This looks like my JJ-6CSX. I have owned and used this tool for a number of years with great success ( bought it new for $665.00 inDec 1997). Replaced the blades just once and “flat, straight and square” is the best way to start any project. You can review the entire users manual on the Jet tools web site!

WOW-what a bargain!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
