I just wanted to post a quick heads up to fellow Lumberjock members. I just discovered a furniture making business on the web that stole not only an image of my work but also several images from postings here at lumberjocks – They stolen images and designs are offered for sale in their portfolio.

I personally feel it is a great compliment when someone thinks enough of one of my designs to copy it for personal use ( no money involved) But if it is a commercial venture that is NOT OK.

here is the link to the offending site…

I suspect the “portfolio” is just a set of examples of the kind of work that company is willing to do. If they get a customer that wants something pictured, they’ll offer a custom design. In effect, the pictures are just “eye candy”.

That said, if you object to your work – furniture or images – being used without permission, I’d suggest that you contact the website and ask them to remove it.

Hard to know for sure – the “eye candy” is a best case scenario. On other hand they could be claiming that the pictured items are the result of their on design and construction.

Since they chose not to be clear and say “These are some things we could make but are not our creations”, I would suspect the more deceptive scenario.

Couldn’t agree more Darrell. They are representing themselves as if they made these pieces, and that is not right.
