To the folks at Escalate Media,

You may or may not have noticed that there are many members who are quite displeased with changes to the site that have taken place recently.

I for one, understand the additional advertising. You are a business, and as such are in it to make a profit. But why the other changes? By ‘other changes’ I mean: The elimination of the Daily Top 15 and Top 3 from the Home Page The ‘Zoom Pictures’ feature on individual projects allows only the first picture to be enlarged (This may just be a glitch—please fix it.) The format change in Forums (it is a bit cumbersome to wade through).

I am sure that there are others, but these are what come to mind at the moment. The Site was set up well enough to be the best woodworking resource the internet had to offer before these changes took place. Why mess with a winning formula? I am not typing this out as an invitation for others to bash the site, but would really like to see things go back to the way they were. Jocks, help me out here. Yeah, I know, people resist change as part of basic human nature, but is change always for the better?

The rumour mill is working overtime. The speculation is hilarious. Especially HD taking over. All it needs is JuanM to come on and tell everyone what is going on.
JuanM, what is the deal? Are things changing or is this just a technical glitch?
The not knowing is causing a lot of distress for some.

I doubt that this is what they intended for an outcome, or that this is the finished product. I do wish that it had been handled better than the health care site. I can’t imagine that they won’t get it fixed, just frustrating.

For a site that supposedly has 84000 members (although over 1/3 are spam accounts: the site overlords have been disturbingly absent over the last 2 weeks. A post/topic to let us know what’s going on would be much appreciated. Instead, nothing. As LJ members we have a symbiotic relationship with the LJ overlords; they supply us with a site, we supply them with money through advertising revenue. They seem to have forgotten their part in this, at least to have some courtesy and let us know what is going on. Yeah we can all speculate about format changes/hackers/the NSA etc. and of course there are a few members that will chime in and say the site is working perfectly for them but for the rest of us, the site is messed up and we don’t really know why.

Of the other two woodworking forum sites I visit this is the best. I hope they iron out the issues.

Speculation!? A picture is worth, well – pretty much nothing anymore.

MsDebbie,JuanM and CricketWalker have all responded in other posts in the past few days that the techs are trying to fix the problems. Why anyone would think, that other than the additional ads, these are permanent format changes is beyond me. Have some patience and give them some time to fix it and then complain about what, if any changes are made, to the site.

I guess I agree with several comments. I guess there have been posts but how many have seen them? The daily top 15 is gone… in it’s place… how hard would it be to put a banner that says “under construction” “technical difficulties”... something… anything. Send out a message to every member. I don’t really understand the crazy things that you have to do to keep the site up. But just let us know what’s going on. This is my favorite woodworking site. Other than personal blogs its the only site I visit. Never have I thought about checking others out till this.

Just sayin….

BTimmons – That’s the best comment about the site problems I’ve seen yet! Lol.

Well done, Mr. Timmons! One of Clint Eastwood’s early gigs, IIRC.
