Topic tags/keywords: question

I am starting a new Local Organization with a few other Veterans and spouses..

We train Service Dogs for Wounded Veterans with Post Traumatic Stress and Traumatic Brain Injuries in the El Paso, TX Las Cruces, NM area.

What I need is input on a name for the Organization. We will only have a Facebook page, but the name is very important obviously right.

It will be a small Org. basically 5 people right now and keeping it as small as possible.

We train the dogs for free, basically we train the Vet along side with his dog. Really we train the Soldier the dogs is just along for the treats.

We were part of MASH – Mutts Assisting Soldier Heroes but are now venturing out on our own.

Any ideas would be appreciated. I have faith you Jocks/Jills can think outside the Butt Joint.

Dogs for Vets as opposed to veterinarians for dogs.

I wish you well in this endeavor and admire you willingness to help those that suffer from this issue. Despite what our precious experts who have never seen a day in combat will tell the general public, seeing death and killing other human beings has an effect on people. Different people react to this in vary different ways. Sadly many refuse to seek help for fear of being labeled “potential problems to the community, or being submitted for mental health care and losing the ability to bear arms, as well as many other seemingly odd reasons to outsiders.

So far I see many good ideas for the name but would offer this, leave anything with HERO out of the name. Combat vets will know why, all others trust me when I say you do not want to know.

Wood Butcher,
I hear ya, Just because people don’t understand or are misguided doesn’t mean they don’t have compassion or are unwilling to learn. A lot of Vets don’t think of themselves as Heroes, but I believe they all are and its important that they know other believe they are. Just like a cop, fireman, and others that risk their lives or go beyond the norm for their fellow Americans are Heroes.

You are a better man then me, I know the vets going to the VA, mean, smelly and old, just like me. SWAMP is awesome.

After deciding on a name you have to find out if it is already being used or something close enough to it that using it would make a conflict.
FACEBOOK, EMAIL, WEB SITE, Sheesh, what was I thinking. All the rest is easy.

Design a LOGO, I’m not an artist this is why I don’t Carve.

We were contemplating not limiting ourselves to strictly vets, but with our limited resources we had to limit it to vets only. Maybe in the future we can change that but for now that’s the way it is.

Thank you all for your input you can’t know how much it means to get a lot of input, it helps me make a decision I was not looking forward to.

We are going with Canine Battle Buddies for Wounded Warriors.

We already have 10 people in the process for training.

We ended up taking on a Spouse of a Veteran and a Wounded Fire Fighter because we had already told them we would help them.

So it is up in the air weather we help others besides vets. If we do it would be on a very limited basis.
