I have done some experimenting and a ton of reeding on ca and blo pen finishes. What I have come down to is a few different methods.

Method 1
Hand apply ca glue on a paper towel to seal blan.
Turn lathe on and put ca glue onto pen with paper towel at bottom sliding side to side to smooth and catch excess glue.
Continue for 3 more coats.
Sand with 600.
Buff with plastic polish.

Method 2
Hand apply 4 coats with a paper towel only putting a puddle onto the paper towel directly.
Sand with 600.
Buff with plast polish.

Method 3
Apply a layer on mylands friction polish.
Apply a layer or ca glue from a paper towel.
Total of 4 coats of each.
Sand to 600.
Polish with plastic polish.

Method 4
Same as method 3 but with blo and ca.

If anyone uses any of these techniques let me know and of they should work. Thanks

If you have a procedure, that works for you stay with it. If problem arises, adjust as necessary!

I am close to method one buy vary slightly.

I have used BLO with CA and just CA by itself when ran out of BLO. JMHO, do not need BLO to get a good CA finish. I found wet sanding & polishing with micromesh eliminated need to buff.

Only advantage a CA finish has over other film finishes is ease and speed.
