While I know that these are tough times for alot of people, was Santa generous towards you or did you get some coal?

Myself, my holidays aren’t over until Saturday, but so far, Santa has been generous. However, all those Home Depot and Lowe’s Gift Cards that I wanted turned magically into clothes.

While I know that I needed new clothes for my boring job, I needed more tools and materials for my REAL job of working with wood.

I did manage to get some gorgeous Red Cedar and Old Growth Pine from a co-worker, so I didn’t totally strike out.

How did you make out this season?

I got a Iltis & Oxhead drawknife, bastard cut rasp, couple of clamps, and a Bosch 1590EVSK 6.4 Amp Top Handle Jigsaw with a bunch of blades. For once I got things I can use. This is so rare, haha.

Santa came a day late. I just picked up my first lathe today, a Jet mini lathe model# jml-1014vsi that I found on Craigslist. Still in the original unopened box, saved about $100. I could have done a lot worse.

SWMBO does not get the tool lust thing, but I did manage to swap out some electrical wiring ( about 2 hours work) for a 60 gallon, 5 hp 220 v. air compressor. Got it up and running today.

I’ve been trying to get this straight for a long time. Does SWMBO stand for “She Who Must Be Obeyed” or “She Works My Butt Off”? Just asking. As always, bbqKing.

Got a 3/4 hp plunge router, from my Father in law.

Got a Dremel 10.8v cordless, for when I am in the house and tinkering with carvings at the coffee table.

Now I need to put the router to work. And need to grab an extra battery for the Dremel.

Gave my Father in law a Japanese marking knife. And a firefigthers folding knife and a bottle of Pirat Ale.

I am urging him to join LJ as he just built a bunk bed with steps on the end with drawers inside. I like the way he handled the drawer handles on the 2 front drawers. They are inside pulls so the kid does not use the drawers as steps.

He also built a blanket chest for his daugther which is both good and bad; good because she has one now, bad because I had my eye on some solid cedar to make her one.

Well I got 2 wonderful additions to the shop.

1) A chain saw blade sharpener (as so many trees dropped last year,we need to keep the blades sharpened all the time)

2) A saw blade sharpener,,with 30 blades waiting to be worked(at $7-$9 per) the savings are going to pay for the tool in the first few weeks alone.

As a Christmas treat,,I got the unique privilege of cleaning the entire building(I usually wait till spring) but the scrooge in me had to be set aside for the shops needs.

Hope everyone had a nice holiday break!

Man, did I clean up! Only two articles of clothing and the rest… wood related.

I got a nice Woodcraft gift card from my brother in-law, about eight woodworking books from my Amazon wishlist (including a book about Sam Maloof that I can’t wait to read) and the ’piece de resistance’ the grandaddy of gifts the Flexcut reciprocating power carver.

Watch out wood here I come!

I made a good haul!

A respirator mask, an electric jigsaw, a heavy-duty extension cord with the triple end, an air compressor, and an airbrush.

Airbrush is for my model trains, but it may have use with some woodworking

I got a pretty good haul…

I bought myself a 10” Craftsman drill press and My wife let me buy $50 worth of pine lumber for some of her projects…

I got a Kreg jig and a brad nailer. I got some hardware I wanted and 3 woodworking magazine subscriptions. i also got some Home Depot gift cards.

I have filled the car about 5 times with lumber over this 2 weeks I’ve had off work and have been left alone in my shop for most of that 2 weeks… that was the best present because I know I won’t get down there for awhile after our daughter is born at the end of this month!
