Topic tags/keywords: question

So something or some one has done something that has screwed up LJ one of the best websites I have be on. There are several forum discussions expressing concerns. The site has gotten so bad members are leaving and I would assume new members are not being attracted to it. But what I find most disturbing is that there has been no contact from the administration alerting us to what is going on. At least I have not had an e-mail nor have I found an announcement on the site giving an explanation. It makes me worried that this site has been sold to some other party that does not care about its members. There has been no feedback. I have no clue to what is going on. What caused the changes? Why were they necessary? All I read in the other discussions seems to be rumor and speculation.

Popular forums start with great intentions but once they grow so large, the original owner often can’t handle them anymore and sell them to groups that only have profits as a priority. A popular forum can make a lot of money between supporting members and ads. I’ve heard of forums out there generating 6 figures for the owner(s). Once it gets to that point however, often the owner(s) don’t really care for the members anymore and operate the forum as a business and the loose sight of what matters…the “customers”. Not saying that’s what is going on here but the above scenario isn’t all that uncommon but I wouldn’t expect to hear from anyone on this issue. It’ll either miraculously be fixed or it will stayed screwed up members be damned. No one will likely fess up to the screw-up whether it was intentional or not.

You are quite right combo, it would only take a minute for someone in admin to let us know what the hell is going on. If this is a new format, would have been a good idea to for someone to have let us know beforehand, then there wouldn’t have been all the “What’s wrong with the short version?” posts.
It’s not that I’m resistant to change, but this new lengthy format requires a lot more scrolling – not so bad on a pc, but a total pita on a handheld device.

Too many broken functions for this to be the new format. I’m sure whoever may be doing the programming for the site made a “boo boo.”

It’s a long weekend and I would bet my best hand plane that it will be corrected. None of the changes add value, they make the site less usable. Being the site depends on ads and membership growth it will be fixed.

Relax. Site is a $$ maker for the owners, so owners will fix it when the know site members are getting pizzed.

It’s all about the money, honey. For awhile I’ve felt this site has gone to too much off-content posting and fawning over female members posts.

Now with the new owners the ads seem to be increasing, content reducing and format is unpleasing.

Time to start forum shopping.

I frequent a couple of go-fast boat sites. Engine and out drive tech is primary for sure. Allot like tools and overall WW’ing is here. But…. wanna talk about catering to the females?!? LOL Hell our boat sites have sections/forms specifically dedicated to the ladies. After all, ya can’t live without them :o) (o:

See ya Biff. Best of luck in your wanderings!!
