In the other threads about the ads poping up all over.

Do any of you LJ’s ever click on a pop up ad?

Have you ever bought from a pop up ad ?

I use add Block Plus on Fire Fox.

I think if no one would ever click on an ad, let alone buy from it. Maybe the advertising would slow down and or quit.

I have never clicked any ad, on any web site, in my entire life.

It doesn’t have any bearing. The entire internet would have to decide never to click on an ad, and to boycott companies that do place the ads.
The site owners are paid not for clicks, but for impressions. There are at least 5 ads per page – blocked or not. Multiply that by the number of pages you look at when you visit, and if refresh serves up new ads then that counts too. Multiply that total by the number of daily visitors and you see how many impressions the site has to offer. If 500 of us visit each day and look at 10 pages each, that’s 5000 impressions and that’s what they get paid for. The more impressions they can promise Google or whatever ad company they are using, the more money they make. And the number of impressions they can promise google is based on site traffic – how many of us show up and how many pages we look at each time we do.

Clicks? The site doesn’t care, and google doesn’t care. If you don’t click then that just means the company placing the ad was too cheap to hire a decent ad designer. They’re still going to pay google for placing the ads.

That’s a bit of a simplification, I know. There are still a few places offering pay-per-click advertising, but mostly it’s priced at CPM – cost per thousand impressions.

Thanks for your explaination. I thought it was all click based.

My understanding of this monitization of this web thing are outdated.

So glad all my data is getting mined. So I am going to look for Nun’s in jello. Nun’s using HD tools. etc.

Then I will search how to turn lead into gold. DIY denture carving and perpetual motion machines. That should give me a nice alorrythem to sell.

Nope – in answer to the original question. Joe, that was an interesting post too.

Not in this lifetime!

A websites stock value is also determine on the ”ad clicks”; there must be a lot of “sheep” out there to make one site worth more than another!
Probably no different than people who buy every other item on the shopping channels whether or not they need it.

Yes I did and I beg to differ from Joe but I believe that when you click on an ad the click is recorded and the site owner get more money
