Topic tags/keywords: question walnut

HI, Maybe a fellow LJ has some other ideas or has built something like this before and can share. I am building a Sliding window shade, it has been requested to be made from Walnut. I have decided on the slide hardware. The layout will be like the attached picture, the outer frame will be doweled/glued as will the shade frame. I just cannot decide how to do the grid. The depth of the mullions? (grid) will be 1/2” and width of each piece is 3/4”.

I feel the vertical center piece should be solid (1 piece) but not sure about joining it to the frame? Do I have to worry about expansion? Should I dado & lap joint and glue or screw? Should I dowel? Pocket screw?

As for the Horz pieces I have pretty much the same questions.

Thank you for any input.

I would half lap the whole grid, hor. and vert. pieces, and do a stop dado on the frame back, with a router, and dado the ends of the grid to fit the frame dadoes.

Thanks Hobby1, I feel that may be the best route also.
