A couple of my nieces and nephews, a cousin, some friends, my barberette are on facebook a lot. And, I mean a lot. I even have to schedule my haircuts through Facebook. I was thinking don’t they have anything better to do? As I thought about it I came to realize that Lumberjocks is kind of a facebook (avatarbook) for woodworkers. I probably have as much time on here as they do on Facebook and I know a lot of you guys spend a lot of time on this site. Am I right? Aren’t we just another Facebook with a woodworking twist?

Me too Monte. I rarely comment on the religious, political or sharpening threads but I enjoy them immensely!
I have opinions but I don’t want to convert or argue them with anyone. After age 65 it doesn’t seem worth the effort.

Murch, no. Deek needs support to battle his Catholic Church bashing addiction.

I’ve never been on facebook. If my barber told me to go there to make an appt I’d be finding another barber. I’ve also never twittered, I’m not linkedin. I give Google’s + a big fat -.
You won’t find any “selfies” of me on Flickr or Instagram.
If you’re down in my area, don’t bother trying to find me on foursquare.
I’ve never Yelped.
And I have no interest in pinterest.

I suppose if I was a bit less anti-social then lumberjocks would be considered my social media site.

renners, thanks for the backup and “social” support.
Murch, why no smiley face at the end of your post? I can not believe you are upset over a subject you participate in. :-)
JustJoe, had the same barber for over 30 years.
wseand, if this thread is blasphemy then it borders on religious. Can’t do religion…
Roger, you caught me…or, I step through the mirrors whenever I need that second set of tools…is that witch craft? I have to watch the border.
Monte and Tex, at least you guys are honest. :-)

Ok, I have to admit I used to be on Facebook regularly(mostly to stalk my kids) but found it a tremendous time suck. Stupid posts like “Just got out of the shower”, “making dinner”, “scratched my butt because it itched”, drove me nuts.

Instead now I I’m viewing posts like “how to sharpen a chisel”, “I made a cedar canoe from scratch”, “look at the workbench I just made that took me 2000 hours” and this drives me….....uh wait, no I actually like those posts. Sorry, bad rant. Carry on.

-- ok, is it cut once measure twice, cut twice measure once???? I know....I'll just keep cutting until it's long enough.

I have a biz FB page too… I don’t do regular FB much, but the biz page has been good for business.

I also post stuff on FB that might be of interest to woodworkers and carpenters, so check it out if you want to. Clicking on “photos” might be more helpful than slogging through the timeline though:

And yeah, LJ is social media for wood nerds.

Cheers, Bass
