He looks just like a pet squirrel named Rocky we had in Michigan. He lived in a big maple tree in the back yard and we kept his name of Rocky even after we discovered ‘he’ was having and raising a litter of babies in that maple tree every year.. Rocky would come to the sliding door window from the deck and put his nose and hands on the glass and chatter until we saw him. He was reminding us that we had let his feeder of raw peanuts get empty. He’s eat out of our hands if his feeder was empty. We fed him to keep him out of the bird feeders.

The people who bought our house adopted him and still feed him peanuts..

We used to see that same look when we lived in Minnesota, Wisconsin, and Illinois but now that we live in California they don’t have to come begging as there is never any snow cover in the bay area.

In Wisconsin we had one that would hang on our screen door until we gave him a cookie. He would take the cookie, hop about 10 feet away, eat out the chacolate chips, and then take the rest back to the family.

Now we have humming birds that fly in front of our patio door and hover there to tell us the their feeder is empty. If you ignore them and just go outside they buzz you to get your attention. For a small bird the can make themselves really large so to speak.

My birdfeeder is squirrel proof, so they have to go to the one neighbor who feeds them, then they go to
a third neighbor’s yard and tease the three dogs by running from one maple tree to another without getting
caught, never have figured out if the dogs were just slow or the squirrels were smart.
