I am mounting the base of a blanket chest to the carcass. Given that I am an inprecise person, how do I mount this with an equal amount of “underhang” on each side? Does anyone know any old tricks they can share?

Take the measure of both dimentions of the base, divide by 2, cut, fold flush on both sides and attach? Why didnt I think of that?
