How close to the edge of the blade can the lever cap be without the shavings getting clogged.

I drew this Brese 650-55J Smoother with a 55 degree bed and the tip of the lever cap is 7/8” from the cutting edge of the blade. Should it be closer – will the blade chatter. I am using the new lee valley blade and Norris adjuster kit and the blade is 1/8” thick.
