Ok I have built bookcases before but am unsure how to proceed with this one.

Wife wants a contemporary bookcase where there is no face frame but the case itself is approx 2” thick and flush from face to case.

I assume to build width you add spacer between 2 sheet goods? My question is how to finish face? Will using a wide piece of edge banding going to hold? I never used edge banding on a face never mind 2” wide. Will the sheet edges show through?? Can you edge band mdf?

It will be painted and would rather use plywood then MDF but open to ideas.
