Topic tags/keywords: question lathe chisel turning resource

I make and sell high quality turning tools. I was wondering if it would be ok to post them for sale here if it is allowed. I do not want to break any rules. I do sell these on another forum and they have been well recieved and liked. If it is ok I will start a new thread with pictures of them if anyone has an interest and it’s ok.

Hi Greg- in very fine print, at the bottom of the page, is ‘Terms of Service.’ I’m not an administrator, but LJs prohibits unsolicited advertising or promotionals in the forums. You can always create a tag line for your signature with a website address in it for each message, and list a web page for your products on your Profile. These are the rules as I understand them. I’m sure an Admin will see your post eventually and answer. If they ask, I’ll vouch for your tools!

Thanks for the info Barb. I just read the terms, it is a long read. Being that I am not a business and just a hobbyist making some tools I wonder if the terms would apply to me. If I made cutting boards could I sell them here? I don’t have a website of my own, and I don’t know if I could link wb where I have been selling my tools.

It seems others offer wood and tools for sale and I’ve never heard of them getting in trouble .

I dunno Shane? But the worst would probably happen to me! LOL. I just don’t want to break any rules or offend the admins. I just want to make sure it’s ok first. It’s not really any different than if I was cutting and selling my wood here, but that might just be my opinion.

Do they Jim? I guess I’m behind the times. Greg’s are superior tools at reasonable prices, and would benefit many here. I haven’t seen tools for sale, but if they are, have at it, I guess!

Jim, that’s what I thought. But the tools I have seen for sale where not made buy the seller, where they? You do understand me wanting to do things on the up and up. I do call my tools woodticktools, by woodtickgreg, get it? LOL.
They are good quality tools that work well and I sell them for a fair price. They are as good as anything you will buy in a store, maybe better in some ways. I made them for myself first and then before I knew it others where asking for them and continue to do so. Barb has a couple of my tools.
I would like to offer them to others here but also want to follow the rules.
Greg

One of the things i like about this site is the absence of for sale ads by the members, their are a lot of other places for them. Just saying.

Lumberdog, I have seen a lot of other items here in this forum for sale, I don’t really see how this would be any different other than I make them, tools made by a wood worker for wood workers. And at a lower cost than than from a retail store. Tools made in America by an American. If I am allowed to post them they would be kept in this one forum. And they are tools that would be of interest to many turners here. After all there is advertising at the top of every page for something or some business or company.

Ya, have at it brother. I’ve sold stuff I’ve restored on the sell or swap forum. Nothing wrong with it. I’m currently buying some custom made saws from another LJ. I think it’s great.

Also, this is one of few forums that will allow you to post links to another site where you sell your stuff. So if you get one of those going, do that too.

Greg, you could probably create your own blog series then if people are interested in what you’re making they can read about them if they choose.

Lots of people sell stuff here. No reason you can’t follow suit, as far as I know.

Greg, have you thought about writing an article for monthly newsletter. Lot of woodturners ask questions about carbide tools in turning thread. Not sure would check in here for information.

I thought that’s what the trade and swap forum was for.

Don I just want to make sure, the forum is trade and swap, not a classified section. Although there seems to be a lot of sales going on here. I may let this post run a little while longer and if the admins don’t chime in then I will start a new thread with the tools I have available for sale. Most of the responses have been positive and say why not. I just want to do things right and not ruffle any feathers or get banned.
