There is a new in box Ridgid R4511 near me available for sale. I am in the market for a saw in the $500ish price range. I was considering getting a new Ridgid R4512 but the price for the new in box R4511 would probably be slightly less than the R4512. I probably wouldn’t get the LSA buying it from a 3rd party though. Are the cast iron wings and the cabinet mounted trunions a big enough upgrade over the R4512 to bother with the older saw? Is the fence on one much better than the other?

The 4511 is a nice saw, especially if you have a problem with humidity in your workshop. That said, the LSA is worth something, despite the fact that you are responsible for potentially getting the saw to a service center. If it were me, I’d try and get a better deal on the 4511 or just get the 4512. I think I’d need a price delta of ~$150 to consider a used 4511 over a 4512.

The R4511 has granite wings and top, not cast iron…’s got the same top and guts as the current Craftsman 22116, but has a different fence. The trunnion design is excellent…much beefier, but the fence isn’t so great. If the price is right, it could be a nice saw.

I previously had a Craftsman contractor saw, probably late 80s early 90s vintage. It was my dads and he left it in my garage for probably 5 years since he moved and didn’t have room. He took it back this fall and I have been without since. I was a pretty light user of it for the 5 years I had it, but god did I ever hate that fence. I am trying to get more into wood working now and would like something that works a little better and will last me a while. I found out the saw is at a wholesaler, so the LSA might still apply, I am going to contact Ridgid to find out. I think I will check it out and if I can get him down below the price of a new 4512 I will bite. I was strongly considering the 4512, but the one at my local HD looks like junk, the wings feel so cheap and are not flush with the top. I assume that is just because of the assemblers, but the 4511 looks so much more solid. I thought I would check on here and see if anyone who has used both had an opinion, one vs the other.
