Ive been looking to buy a bench top mortiser for some time. They tipically go for around 350. Then I came across an unbelevable deal at the Jet CPO site. The 1HP Jet model with enclosed cabinet. They have it marked down to 499 dollars minus 150 dollars in rebates as of last week. ( not sure of this weeks rebates) After shipping it cost me 380 dollars. It arrived today and there is no comparison to the little bench top models. This is the best tool deal i ever got. If they are still running this special get in on it. I think the regular price of the machine is around 1000 dollars. I will review with piks hopefully by the weekend. |

what is the website? |

http://www.cpojettools.com/products/708589k.html I was just drooling over that this morning. Adam, did you notice how both rebates say they require the original receipt and have slightly different addresses to mail to? I saw on another forum where someone has sent two different Jet rebates in together and that worked out. But I wonder. -- johnjoiner |

That’s a STEAL! I have a similar Powermatic unit. You’re right about the no comparison to benchtop models. Congratulations on your catch! -- - Please help keep Lumberjocks an enjoyable escape by refusing to participate in political discussions. Simply spit out the bait and ignore the thread... |

FYI. Since the receipts are from a web order you can print as many as you want and they are all original! |

Yes Timberman is right. I spoke with someone from Jet and they said send your computer printouts with both envelopes. Im not sure how it works if you purchase from a store and only have one reciept. |

Thank you Adam! I was going to buy a benchtop, but with your help I will now have a better tool. Now all I need to do is figure out where to put it. map -- measure once, cut once, swear, start over |

I dont’ really have the money for this but it is a bit hard to pass up. Does anyone have any feedback on this product? How does it compare to others? |

Here’s a write-up on it at Popular WW: And here’s a different review: -- johnjoiner |

thanks johnjoiner. Now if someone could just post an 8” joiner and 18” bandsaw at this price I would be all set. (at least for a little while) |

Those were two spot on reviews. Guess i dont have to do one after reading them. This machine is very user friendly. Ive never used a mortise machine before and within 10 minutes of having the machine assembled I was making perfect mortises. note: The machine is heavier then the NEW WOODWORKER review stated. Its about 295 pounds. Comes in two Pieces, cabinet and the mortiser. I thought i could pick the top up by myself and was sadly mistaken. Let my back tell you! |

Adam – Did it come with mortise bits? The review mentioned that it did but I did not see that in the description. Looks like I will be ordering one tomorrow, just wanted to know if I should add them to the order. |

I just ordered mine, printed three receipts (2 for the rebates, one for me), and printed both rebate forms. I’m mailing them tonight. BTW I’m selling my jet benchtop mortiser for $200 if you’re in the seattle area. |

If they sent this thing without chisels, I’d be surprised. My benchtop version came with chisels. |

My Powermatic (the same unit painted gold) did not include with chisels. The best accessory you can buy for this machine is a sharpening cone for the chsiels, as sold by LV or Rockler. With an external polish on 4000/8000 stones (or equiv. sandpaper), and a few minutes in the inside with the cones, the quality and ease of use goes through the roof! -- - Please help keep Lumberjocks an enjoyable escape by refusing to participate in political discussions. Sorry guys But it doesnt come with chisels. I bought one of the jet chisels when I bought the machine, and it shipped separately. |

Karson, in comments after his review of mortiser chisel sharpening tools made a reference to a comparison test of hollow chisels and bits done in Woodworking Magazine #7. Thanks Karson, I own that issue but had forgotten all about that article. I can’t speak for them personally (I just ordered them today). But this really cheap set of chisels and bits from Hartville tool tested out very well in that article, given that you’re willing to spend some time sharpening before use. This boxed set of 4 is on sale for $25 right now. I figure we need good but super inexpensive chisels and bits to mount in our good but super inexpensive mortiser. -- johnjoiner |

I received my JFM-5 on Tuesday. I opened it today and at a minimum configured the machine on one of my benches until I can build a box and reconfigure one of my mobile bases to put it on. I put it together and tested it to make sure that everything worked. I have to say that there is no comparison to the drill press mortise attachment that I had been using. I only wish they had this deal when I purchased the attachment. It cuts like butter and with the extra long handle you can don’t have to work hard at all to pull it down. Thanks again for the great find. |

Mine finally showed up today. I am going to try to repurpose a mobile base. The stand has braces and holes in the corners, but I think that’s to bolt it down, not for casters. |

Has anyone received their rebates yet? |

WOW!!!! Now it’s up to $899. Missed out on that deal :o) |

I just got an email last tuesday saying I would recieve my first of the two rebate checks in a week or two. |

I never count on rebates. The big orange box still owes me $100 from the insulation I bought 20 months ago. Then there are the countless rebates I forget to submit until after the deadline. Oh what a waste. -- Scott in Texas |
