I had all my favorite New Yankee Workshop episodes saved on my DVR, but of course it died. Now all my saved videos are lost!

I am really interested in getting his Cigar Chair episodes (s15e4 & s15e5).

I wish the seasons were offered at a decent price on the website. $25-40 for a single build or $3000 for the entire series. That is insane!

For what it’s worth, your DVR stores all of your recorded videos on a hard drive no different from what’s in your computer. I don’t know how difficult this would be for you (or anyone) but you could hook up the hard drive from the DVR to your machine as an external drive (using something like this: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817153066). After it’s connected you might be able to browse the drive and gain access to the recordings. Some googling might alert you to what format they’re saved in and whether or if they can be converted to something you can use. It can be a hassle and take a while but it’s an option :)

From the research I have done, I don’t think that is an option Ninja. Apparently the video is encoded and not able to be converted. I also read that I would not be able to use another DVR to read that drive either. Apparently the recordings are locked to a specific box and if that box dies, the recordings are lost forever.

Have your say...
