Topic tags/keywords: question router bit

Has anyone here tried Harbor Freight’s “4 Piece Face Molding Router Bit Set”?

I noticed it on the rack at my local HF the other day while checking out their Black Friday sale. From a purely visual standpoint, it looked far better than I expected for HF bits. They were clean, sharply painted and nicely packaged. I wasn’t able to check the bearings or anything else, as they were in a heavy plastic casing, but the $59.99 price tag is tempting.

I like Stumpy’s analogy that going to Harbor Freight is like a casino, you put your money down and take your chances.

the hf router bits I’ve used i have been very disappointed in. ya they look good but the carbide they use is more like butter than steel. i like to use harder woods than balsa so i would say if you don’t want waste your money buy a better brand.

I’ve had good luck with Eagle America and MLCS…. might look at them too if your in the market for these type of bits

Bondo: Yeah, That’s a definite.

Gary: I’m familiar with both. 90% of my router bits are MLCS. I love ‘em. But the HF price is tempting since I don’t have a current use for them, just more of a “desire to play around with” so the cost of MLCS or Eagle is too much. (And don’t even get me started on Freud’s prices!)
