I was wondering if anyone has ever mounted full extension drawer slides in a groove to maximize drawer width. If so did you groove the cabinet or the drawer?

Good thought; I don’t see why it wouldn’t work. You probably could groove either the drawer or the side, or maybe even both. You would have to be careful not to groove (dado) too deeply or the screws that mount the slides might penetrate all the way through the wood.

I think you’ll find it to be of little gain in space or otherwise,..

I don’t think it will work anyway as the cabinet side of the guide cannot have any face restriction to extend.

i guess it has been done before. here is a couple of pictures of the method in two different ways
