Topic tags/keywords: question purpleheart cocobolo lathe turning arts and crafts

I have been ordering my blanks from Bell Forrest, but it takes about 5 days to get here from the east coast. I was wondering if anyone has a line on a good supplier with reasonable prices on the West Coast. I am looking specifically for exotic wood pen blanks (Purpleheart, African Blackwood, Olivewood, etc…), 3/4 by 6 inch. Has to be 6 inches, not 5.5 or 5. I have searched online at length, and most places only carry domestic blanks, or they don’t carry 6 inch blanks. Thanks a ton in advance.

OK are you referring to http://www.bellforestproducts.com

They are located on Ishpeming, MI, in the Midwest.

We do have many mills here in Virginia thought. You never know, can’t always be aware of each source.

Yeah that’s the place. Best selection I have come across, but too far from California. I never understood why people call anything east of the Mississippi River, the “Midwest” when it’s 3/4 of the way across the country from the west. But I guess that’s a different discussion. To me anything east of Texas is in the east.

I checked out that place you linked, and they have a few of the species I need, but they are missing a lot. They have really good prices though, so I will still use them for the species that they do carry. Thanks a ton.

I love woodcraft! But they don’t carry 6 inch pen blanks. All 5 inch.

Of all I’ve dealt with, Bell Forest is the best in selection and delivery. Cook Wwods out of Oregon is another I’ve used… Haven’t checked the lengths.
