I’m putting together a large table and while the top is clear of defects there are a few voids on the back. Aesthetically I don’t mind these, but I’m wondering if they will cause problems if I leave them as is.

The attached photo is of the largest (out of ~5) of these (~3 inches long, and ~1/2 inch deep in a 1.5” slab). Do I need to fill these with an epoxy or the like or will they be fine finished with shellac and oil like the rest of the piece?

Thanks,
Jesse

If they haven’t caused a problem by now you should be OK but make sure you get a good coat of finish in there to seal them off.
