I am really interested in buying a 12” Oliver jointer (4255). Does anyone know the start up amps for the jointer? I emailed the company and they told me it runs on 15 amps but they didn’t tell me how many amps it takes to start.

Hard to put an exact number on it. Normally, it is said it will be 6 to 8 times running amps. It is infinity for the first few cycles.

BTW, I saw a Popular Woodworking email with a $100 rebate on 6” Oliver jointer today.

If you’re going with the 3hp motor, it will draw about 11 amps. As topmax stated you can count on 6 to 8 times for start-up.

Many variables here….
How long is the run from the box
Other equipment on the same line

Consult and electrician.

ps….nice jointer
