I stopped in Woodcraft yesterday for a can of Boeshield and noticed they had a black Excalibur 21” scroll saw in, my reaction was dang that’s the coolest looking scroll saw I ever. I nearly quick draw my wallet out but I always like to research tools first. So I searched Lumber jocks just now and everybody seems to love the thing…great now I have scroll saw GAS! For those who own one of these do they have enough power for hardwoods like oak?

I don’t have that one but yes it does, given you employ the proper blades.

It will not however accept the feed rate of a bandsaw.

Thanks cabmaker, I spent the last hour trying to come up with a good reason to purchase it…no luck. Its a nice machine but then I remembered I replaced the last scroll saw I had with a CNC mill (I was mold making at the time) and I’m getting the CNC bug again.

CNC within the reach of the hobbiest has come a long way since I owned mine maybe 6 years ago. I still have my CNC 3D CAD/CAM software OneCNC XR2 Mill so I’d only need a machine to get back into it. I think I’m going to slow down and do some thinking here.

I’m sure you’ll make the right decision. I’m sure ill never need another scroll saw but the Excalibur is probably what I would jump on if I did buy again.

I’m too far down the road to get into a cnc but yes they have come within reach of the lay people.

Enjoy the journey, JB
