I witnessed something a couple nights ago that I cant get it out of my mind. While having dinner at the local Applebees there was an apparently homeless man who kept coming in the front door /stay for a few minutes /then go back out.(I’m in Minnesota and it was about 30 degrees outside) he was clearly cold and coming in to warm up. You could see most of the people looking at him like ‘why do they let him in ’ (and I’m ashamed to say I was one of those people. When we were leaving I saw a young lady with 2 very small kids buy a gift card and give it to the homeless guy. When we got to the car we saw another lady taking a blanket out of her car and give it to him. Seems one act of kindness can be contageous. I also gave him a little cash…didn’t have much, but he appreciated what I could do. It was a reality check for me. In today’s world how sure are we that we could never be homeless? I’m sure no one plans to be homeless. I hope I can show a little more compassion in the future! And shame on me for being in the “why do they let him in here crowd. And thank you to that young lady for showing me what a real Christian should do when its clear someone needs a hand.

At times we act as if our peace and confidence is a matter of effort and self-control.
