I purchased a lightly used D4R not so long ago. I’ve never used a dovetail jig before and have a project that will require both through and half-blind dovetails. The only thing that wasn’t with the purchase was the instructional video. My question is, should I purchase a new instructional video from Leigh, or just go with Youtube videos and the manual? Thanks.

When I bought my Leigh Super jig the youtube videos were the same as the ones on the disc. Just go to Youtube and look for the ones by Leigh themselves.

Yeah, I’d watch the ones off YouTube, and then get some cheap pine or doug fir (or whatever else is soft and cheap in your area) and practice. Videos and instructions are fine for setup, but nothing tells you how to deal with the little quirks and trip-ups like just cutting dovetails and getting a feel for how the jig works.

The Wood Whisperer has a video where he uses a Leigh Jig. It has some informative “how to” segments.

I have never seen a video, I just use the manual. Takes a while getting used to but it does a great job…..I’ve had my Leigh for about 15yrs now.

I just used my leigh for the first time (purchased used) without the video. I just used the manual and it it well written and shows how to set the jig up. It is far best to have two routers one set for each bit. I have the chip collector with my jig and very highly recommend it. One thing to note is that I tried it with my Bosch D handle and could not control the router. The Bosch inserts do not extend as far as the PC inserts. I ended up buying the Hitachi 2 1/4 hp (around $120) and use that router. For the price it is a very nice router the other router I use is the Freud 1701 with the jig. Make plenty of sample parts to learn the jig, but it is not that hard.
