Topic tags/keywords: surface sander baileigh new tools new machine sanding surface preparation finish sander

A short time back I won the contest put on by Baileigh Industrial. I won a 1k prize but had to hold off collecting on it so I could add a little to the total & get their 17” drum sander. It’s out for delivery today. I think it’s great that a company gets involved with their client base this way. It gets the word out about their products and motivates us to make things we may have never done with out the motivation. A big thanks to Shane & everyone @ Baileigh for their generosity and involvement in our woodworking world. Pics to follow as soon as it gets here.

Update: It’s here and what a great looking machine it is. The feed belt is excellent quality, probably the nicest I’ve come across. It has a solid feel, very heavy, around 300lbs. The metal is a good thick gauge. The finish is good quality, no scratches. I won’t get to use it til tomorrow when I get the dust collector connected but I’ll definitely be putting it through the paces very soon. It also came wrapped up very well. BTW, no one said I had to look clean and pretty for the picture. LOL

I was there when he unwrapped it. You should have seen the smile on his face.
Congrats Bill.

Thanks guys, I have found that a good drum sander can be used every bit as much as your tablesaw. I use a lot of figured woods so a planer is not an option. I should have it up and running today with dust collection.

Congrats again. Such a sander should make plenty of dust.

Congrats Bill.

I’ll say that you earned it based on your submission! Hopefully we get to see more of your work and that the sander is a champ!

I’m actually building some boxes that it will go right to work on, I’ll post pics as soon as there’s something to look at.

Very nice setup. I really like my JP-1250 jointer/planer and I think Baileigh makes good machines.

This thing really is a nice machine, very solid and accurate. I ran a couple wide pieces through it and it was dead on from one side to the other. This machine is a real pleasure to use, I’m pretty sure I’ll get decades of use out of it. I have to say, once you have a drum sander in your shop, you’ll find yourself using it all the time & doing projects you may not have considered before. Another nice feature about this one is, it has 17” width of sanding ability but it has a small footprint. I also find it to be more stable than my Performax 22/44 that I have at home.
