Dear friends,

i am going to spray a table with clear polyurethane varnish. I will be using a compress air sprayer.

I have bought a a liter of ICI polyurethane varnish and there is no instruction to show how much thinner I should add to the varnish before spraying. The instruction only says I should add 20% thinner for the first coat if I were to use a brush. And that is all.

Please let me know how much thinner I should mix with the varnish .

That’s not a straight forward answer. It depends on the gun itself, and the size of the opening in the needle set as well as air pressures and several other things. What I suggest is to start at a low level, and test it it. If it doesn’t spray smoothly, increase the thinner slightly and try again.
