Topic tags/keywords: trick walnut drill press joining traditional

A crooked 5/8” dowel hole in the bottom of my chair leg needs to be re-drilled. When I stick a 3 foot dowel rod in the hole and step back to see if the hole was drilled straight, the angle must be off by 10 degrees or more.

The chair leg is Walnut and I would rather not replace it. If the hole is glued and plugged tight, will I be able to drill a new straight hole without the plug coming loose? Is there a better way to fix it?

nope.. you “nailed” it.. glue a hardwood dowel in, let it dry and drill it again.. i’ve had to drill an oversize hole, plug that then drill the right size
