I am looking for a frog for a Sargent #9 shaw patent Hand plane. Any chance any one has one? If so send me a PM with a price.

Could you post some pics of the bed, and the bottom of the old (presumably broken) frog so we know what to look for? I’ve got some generic #4/5 sized frogs around somewhere but don’t really know what they might fit.

yep. I knew that going in. I’ve only seen 2 of these planes ever, and one has a broken frog. But who knows what I’ll find while looking for a shaw patent frog!

Good luck don. What is the wood used on sargent totes? My #5 i received from my grandpa looks the same

Type 1 is rosewood

Everything else in this series was East India Mahogany.

In the 400 series they used rosewood until 1909, then East India Mahogany until 1924, then whatever mahogany they could find until1949 when they switched to hardwood

handtool_junky, its been 3 weeks, emails and PMs go unanswered and no frog in my mailbox. Its said to think i have to hope for a tragedy for this to not be a tragedy.
